1st February: Drag racing has always been associated with American cars and engines, and more recently with Japanese machinery. Rick Cuthbert tells us that 2008 sees the dawn of the first-ever Euro Compact race, at the Performance Tuning and Modified Show at Santa Pod Raceway on 11th May.

"Only European-bodied cars with six or less cylinder engines are allowed to compete", says Rick. "The entry list already consists of eight of the fastest cars of their type in the UK. A varied line up includes an MG ZR, a whole host of VWs, a Lancia Delta and a new Mini will create interesting turbo-charged ten-second racing, but there is still room for more!

* European body

Ich denke, daß einige hier vielleicht besser mit der Schrauberei zurechtkommen,
und ihnen der Englisch-Leistungskurs in der Schule zu langweilig war......:D
Also :
Am 11. Mai wird auf der Super-Strecke von Santa Pod / GB eine neue Veranstaltung stattfinden,
das "Euro Compact Race" im Rahmen der "Performance Tuning & Modified Show",
einer Messe/Ausstellung/Treffen für "nicht-V8" LeistungsFans.

Für das Rennen sind ausschließlich europäische Autos zugelassen,
die maximal über einen 6-Zylinder Motor verfügen dürfen.
Auch nachträglich auf Allrad-Antrieb umgebaute sind zugelassen.
Die Käfer-Fraktion ist auch am Start.
Die Teilnehme sollten schon 11sec. und schneller sein,
bei den bisherigen -auch Fronttriebler- sind schon niedrige bis mittlere 10er auf der Uhr gewesen,
und ein 9sec. Käfer ist bis jetzt auch dabei.

Ob die Autos straßenzugelassen sein müssen, weiß ich (noch) nicht,
aber es sollte ne halbwegs komplette Elektrik (Beleuchtung) an Bord sein,
in der Info-Seite steht was von "streetable",
aber ob es da ein "cruising" auf dem Gelände oder den Straßen der Umgebung geben wird,
weiß ich auch noch nicht, das alles hab ich gerade per Mail mal angefragt.

Auch ob es eine Abnahme geben wird, und welche Bedingungen dafür gelten (Bügel, Käfig etc),
werden die Veranstalter mir hoffentlich demnächst mitteilen.
Ich habe auch um Info gebeten, ob es verschiedene Klassen geben wird,
wie hoch das Nenngeld sein wird, und was es zu gewinnen gibt.
