LUV Truck
20.10.2008, 20:30
Hello,

Just getting onto this board and figured and hoped that some good discussions could evolve here. We race the Green Chevy LUV truck and are mostly at Bitburg other than our season opener at Chambley. We would like to get into some racing at some other tracks. Brackets, Footbrake classes where deep staging is allowed. We would like to see what options are available. Hello to anyone we know from the track.

We would also like to see some people MAN UP and race, hot lapping between runs and quit polishing their trailer queens.

Cheers,
Alex

Hi Alex !
Benni here, track announcer all over germany and sometimes in Bitburg.....
Hello and "Welcome here" in the virtual pits.
"Bracket racing where deep staging is allowed" ?
Well, this rules out "Super Street 10.90", which is raced at MZA Luckau and Drachten / NL.

BUT :
At both these tracks there will be E.T. Bracket in 2009.

There is a thread runnig here, from which I stole :
" Everything covered from 6.00 and up:
Super Pro ET 6.00/8,99 sec
Pro ET 9.00/11.99 sec
Streetmachine ET 12.00 sec and slower
Super Comp 8.90 index
Super Gas 9.90 index
Super Street 10.90 index "
Thread here :New classes at Drachten 2009 (http://www.dragracing.de/thread.php?threadid=6402)
More info about Drachten at www.explosion.nl .

Info about MZA Luckau can be found at www.mza-luckau.com ,
but the 2009 Race Date is not announced yet, but will be around the 4th of July weekend.
Pro ET and SuPro ET will be on the list.
There also is a test & tune weekend, usually end of April.
Pro ET also has a section here and their own homepage.

Do you plan any modifications for the LUVed one ?
Are you sure to pass german DMSB tech inspections ?
Maybe Udo Becker can tell you, he checks the cars at Bitburg regularly,
and also knows a bit or two about what´s OK and what not.

Have a nice Off-Season ( it´s shorter than it looks now....:D ) ,
Benni

Hello Benni and thanks for the welcome. Also thank you for the information you provided in your last post.

Not planning any modifications to the LUV over the winter. Simply going to clean up some of the wiring and get some things "dress right dress." Only thing we have to look at is possibly replacing the rear leaf springs. The 1979 stock 4 cylinder springs are a little tired and have lost some of their arc. During the course of the next season we may try another set of cylinderheads that we've been meaning to throw on the 385.

We'll have to look at the DMSB tech inspection you speak of. Is there an online link to the requirements? I can't fathom that they are more strict than NHRA class rules. The truck has a full cage, driveshaft loop, one piece solid axles with studs, and will get a window net and battery cut off this winter.

It was nice meeting you and talking to you in Bitburg.

Cheers,
Alex

Hi Alex.
Nice to " see" you here.
Hope you feel good.
For DMSB rules look at the left side " Forenliste" , and click to dmsb,
you find all the rules for racing in germany.
See you

Welcome Alex and have fun on board.
It's great to see another PU at the track.
I hope you get your head around the rules and regulations and we can see more from U and the PU at the tracks.

Cheers, Merlin(R)

PS I'm the one with the red 41' Ford you pulled back this year in April when we had the tranny probs. Thx again and CU :thumb:

Thanks for the welcome. No problem for the tow. We've been towed back a few times ourselves by other friendly racers, so we are happy to help when we can. Very nice truck BTW.

Hallo

This year at Drachten they still had the blue light on , so no deep staging and curtesy staging .I don't know why and if they have it next year .

DMSB and NHRA rules should be pretty much the same, as they both ought to use FIA rules as their base ...

Hello Jochen,

The truck is the JUNKYARD DAWG because it is mosly built out of parts from junk cars.

The model is however a Chevrolet LUV truck. LUV = Light Utility Vehicle.

Keep working on the truck. Gettin' them to hook is fun. :camper:

Hope to meet up next year.

Cheers,
Alex

Tim,

Thanks, it runs okay but we think there is a lot more potential in the truck without race gas, hose, fiberglass fenders, lexan windows, etc. Working on the whole combination a little to try to get a few more horses out of it and improve traction. Most importantly we want to bring the 60 foot times down more to better the ET. The mph shows that if we hooked a little better that we could run quicker.

Cheers,
Alex
