Is there any way to have a car not street legal in the UK? Saw a rebuild of a Skoda w/ V8 engine on the web some time ago ... can't believe anything like that would be passing TÜV any time before hell freezes over ... X(

Lots of ways.Lucky for us in the UK we have a big body of car clubs that are represented by one voice.Pre 1973 cars are pretty much exempt from most of the modern car rules. That's why i have a 1972 car.....lol
The secret is have a log book for your car, then you can do pretty much anything to it as long as it passes an MOT(ministry yearly test). Our government tried to pass laws to outlaw cars like ours, but there is approx 2,000,000 people working in the small car industry,so they had to shelve the laws.1-0 to the little guys....

    Unglücklich British Racing Green...with envy..;-(

    Hi Andy and guests !
I´m no racer, just the announcer who also reads the daily eurodragster, exvitermini and other sites.
And sometimes a Santa Pod lensman and reporter.
YESS, I surely admire your car, your effort and the fast results.
BUT, like so many german streetcar fans and racers,
I know that these times can only be raced with a british "street" car.
Or a scandinavian, or dutch, or french,
or wherever in Europe the laws and restrictions are not so strict like in our oh so great Deutschland!!!
In GB you can even build your own bike/car from the frame up, blower/nitrous and all,
and then put NO lights whatsoever on it, as long as you only drive in the daytime!
(I also read Streetfighters, BSH and AWOL, CCSE is not available at the newsstand.)
Oh yeah, with all that "European Unification" we surely hope that the rules here will be a little less restrictive in the future,
but it can also be that the fukin TÜV rulez are applied all over Europe (Deutschland über alles, you know...;-))).
Keep fingers crossed and your lobby working.
This TÜV thing makes building fast quartermilers very hard,
and the few guys who made it into the 9s here with a license plate are specialists in both tools AND paperwork,
reading and building "between the lines" of the TÜVbook is an art in itself.
And by now the fastest allowed time in Public Race is 10.00 sec.
The class is called "Modified Street" in the german championship in 2004 and also includes the former Super Street cars.
German Public Racers can also race without being registered on the street,
then they have to have a "car passport" issued by the sports authority.
But then they are not allowed on the road no more.
So comparing your times and "our" times is not realistic,
because you can almost run a "Junior Pro Mod" even if it has a full interior and is british streetable.
It is sad to read that you only race where they drive on the wrong side of the street :-)),
have you heard of the www.recaro-tuning-days.de at Hock in June or the "King of Europe" race project in 2005? See you there?
    Benni
I wish you better weather than last weekend,
and watch out, Mario will be moving over from down under with his GTR, 8,44 and surely not on the limit.

    RE: British Racing Green...with envy..;-(

    [
Benni,I agree with you that a UK street car is a different animal to a German one.But you build cars to the rules of the country you reside in.My car is not a junior pro mod. It's purpose built to run on the road and in the CCSE.The engine is all iron with low compression. It's not a 706 high compression engine.I can take it on the street at anytime and it drives like a normal road car.Of course it doesn't accelerate like one.
I haven't heard of the king of europe race,it would be nice to go but unless we were paid expenses then it would be difficult to even think about going(i have to work, like most of us...)
As for Mario he wouldn't be running 8.44 on Mickey T's and 93 octane pump fuel for sure but it'll be good if he enters our class.
Anyway, good luck to you in whatever you do and maybe i'll see you at Santa Pod one day.
BTW,you can't drive a car legally on the road in the UK without lights, wether it's driven just in the day or not.

    Pfeil OOOPS, Sorry, Andy!

    Hi Andy and guests!
    Sorry for answering late,
we had a test & tune weekend where I was taking pix and topped up my info tank.
By reading eurodragster I got a view not only of your racecar,
but also yourself with the little boy as passenger on the cruise, thumbs up from me.
I did not know the tech details of your engine, sorry.
(I was using the term "Junior Pro Mod" because that is the way some of germany´s 9 sec streetcars look like
in the engine/tranny/axle or chassis department, four-link and all.)
And the "no lights" rule applies to british bikes only,
as you say, I thought it also was valid for cars.
The project of 2005 can be found at www.king-of-europe.com ,
Mario the belgian organizer has posted here under the name "dragonnoir",in german:-(.
He has some interesting entries on his site and is also organizing a chartered bus travel
from belgium/france in 2004 to an event in GB called "ten of the best"(???) where international high-level streetcars
race straight AND roundy-round for trophies and glory.
Me at the Main Event? I still struggle for it.....hoping.
I don´t want to miss your next record....
    Benni
