Please keep in mind that from the 140 teams entered at least 50 percent is parked on grass.
This grass will transform into mud after some rain showers ,which eventually find it´s way on to the track at a later stage.
There is simply no time or equipment around the venue to solve this in a good manner.
Trackprep normally starts late Thursday, cause al kind of equipment has to be installed first, like guardrails, fences,grandstand, etc..
Don´t forget this is an airfield, not a permanent dragstrip.
For example, a guy named Lee Child starts prepping a track at least a week before the event, even better 2 weeks .
That´s simply not the case with Drachten, we have 1 day to build up, 3 days of ´racing ´and 1 day to tear it down and hand over the keys to the original owners.
Of course there is plenty to moan about, there´s always reason to improve, but my personal thoughts about this event is that all people worked there butts of to get some racing started.
We´re talking about a club with a handful of volunteers, not a million dollar race track with over 200 employees wandering around...
