Hi Guy's just wondered if there was any news on the mini dragster yet's
Tony
Well after over three year of hard work on my old race car, Dave Gibbons has now finshed it. Dave entered his first race event (Summernationals) in 27 years behind the streering wheel of the car he would sell me back in September 1984.
This was the day I arrived back from England with my then new race car (Feb 1985) after Dave had replaced the rollcage with a taller one.
This is the car after a three year rebuild April 2011...
As you may see in the picture the Model T it now running with a big block 468ci Chevy, instead of the small block 331ci Chevy we both ran back then.
Dave was happy to let me help take the car apart on a visit to England back in the summer of 2008 to start thing going and check everything over for the rebuild, plus start making a list of parts needed for me to send over from the states to help out on the project.
The last time I sat in the car
This is Dave striping it down
Dave has done a wonderful job of rebuilding this race car which now has a new chrome moly frame (A copy of the old one) so the car is up to current spec. He was kind enough to ask if I would like to drive the car on a visit in the future, I told him that he should build the car just like the way he raced it with the low cage which always made the car look really cool.
These were taken when the car roll out the workshop for the first time with the body repainted in blue on the new frame in 2009
More to follow
really cool, thanks for sharing tony!
The following pictures were took on my next trip to England August 2010.
By now the body had been finshed with the logo Rough Diamond and Dave's name plus the rest of the strips.
Now you can see how Dave can get away with the low cage.
By this time the motor was almost finshed, the trans however needed to be check out and another list made for me to order some parts from JW Performance Transmission on my arrival back home.
I also carried this carb back with me to the US which is a 800 holley, Dave had this on the car when he own it back in the 80's but it never ran good. Now you would think he would want a 1050 DOM on the 468 but because he wanted to use the same hood scoop to keep the same look we had to ues a 4150 carb again. As this was already in Dave's hands he asked if we could start with this to keep the cost down.
So I had to make the carb just as nice as the rest of the car and make it look like new. Which is pretty much what I do every day.
October 2010
So this last June at the Summernationals in England (Santa Pod) Dave got to run the Model T
Dave ended up the number one qualifier by the end of the day making it to the three round. He best et of the weekend was a 8.72 @148mph.
Next weekend Dave is racing at Santa Pod again at the Drastalgia event, he hope to get the car down in the low 8.60's and over 150mph.
I will get you posted on his progress thanks for looking Tony
